Work began last week on improving the fishing at Heritage Pond, north of Dubuque.

A fish habitat project will stabilize the eroding banks along the southwestern shore that runs parallel to Sageville Road and Heritage Trail. Access will be better and the riprap will provide plenty of structure.

The 9-acre pond is home to sunfish, crappie, largemouth bass, northern pike, catfish, bullheads, carp and stocked trout. The Dubuque County Conservation Board purchased the site in 1991.
